Blind to Our Spiritual Blindness

What does it look like to be completely convinced we are doing the right thing while walking directly into danger? In this message drawn from Numbers 22, we explore one of the most striking and layered stories in all of Scripture -- the account of Balaam and his donkey. A world-famous prophet, so blinded by pride, greed, and self-justification, cannot see what a common animal sees plainly: the angel of the Lord standing in the way with a drawn sword. The central warning is both sobering and deeply personal. Spiritual blindness does not feel like blindness. It feels like clarity. It feels like confidence. It feels like we are right. That false sense of sight is precisely what makes it so dangerous. We are invited to examine how pride, inverted thinking, and a seared conscience can quietly erode our ability to discern God's voice, God's opposition, and God's movement in our lives. This is not an abstract theological warning. It is a mirror held up to our own hearts, asking us to consider whether we, too, might be striking the very donkey God sent to save us.
