Breaking Free From Fear

Sermon Description

In our text today, I want us to hear two statements about fear. And then I will share a plan for handling our fear and dread.

Statement #1: Unrestrained fear is destructive to mind, body and faith (Zedekiah)

“All experiences of the fear of man share at least one common feature: people are big. They have grown to idolatrous proportions in our lives. They control us. Since there is no room in our hearts to worship both God and people, whenever people are big, God is not. Therefore, the first task in escaping the snare of the fear of man is to know that God is awesome and glorious, not other people” (Welch, When People Are Big and God Is Small, 95).

Statement #2: Fear of God is a life-giving fear of the right fear (Jeremiah)

Plan: “Even though my fear is great”…

1.“…I will honor and obey God both in public and private”

2.“…I will anticipate His sufficient peace and sight to come”

3.“…I will worship God as near, good, strong, and enough” (Isaiah 41:10, 13; 43:2)
